Rick Philbin is a regional manager for Animas Corporation, an athletic trainer, and an individual with type 1 diabetes. Prior to joining Animas, Rick managed a comprehensive sports medicine center, Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy in the Washington, DC area. He presents frequently on exercise through the Diabetes, Exercise, and Sports Association (DESA). He is currently on the board of directors for the association. Rick is also a national presenter on sports and diabetes for Children with Diabetes (CWD). Rick has been working with CWD for seven years presenting to parents, coordinating the sports programming for kids, and writing articles on the CWD website called the Sports Corner.
Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Athletic Training from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. He also has earned a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis in Sports Management from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania and recently completed his MBA in Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix.
Rick presents the “Exercise” section of this course. He believes education is paramount for good diabetes management. As an avid exercise enthusiast with Type 1 diabetes, Rick practices tight management of his diabetes while on an insulin pump.
