Jane Seley, DNP, MPH, BC-ADM, CDE, a faculty member in the Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) in 2011.
Virginia Peragallo-Dittko, MA, RN, BC-ADM, CDE, FAADE, another faculty member in the Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop, received fellowship with the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) in 2011. The AADE Fellows Program recognizes members for outstanding contributions to diabetes education through clinical practice, research, education or health policy.

New York State recognizes the need for more CDEs – In 2009, the New York State Health Foundation’s Diabetes Policy Center and The Center for Health Workforce Studies conducted a market analysis of CDEs in the State of New York. The study reveals several key findings and recommendations for improving access to Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) services. The report can be accessed here. (pdf, 3.4MB)
Jane Seley, who lectures on Medications at the DCCW, recently received "The New York Times 2010 Tribute to Nurses" award for Innovation. Ms. Seley was granted the award for developing an interdisciplinary diabetes care council and nurse committees at New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center to address coordinating blood glucose monitoring with the delivery of meals and insulin administration. Jane also helped develop a new carbohydrate counting menu for patients. Through her ideas, these systems were revamped to help patients become more empowered and better manage their diabetes. 
Carol Molfetta received the "Advocate of the Year Award" from the Metropolitan NY Association of Diabetes Educators (MNYADE) on May 18, 2010. The ceremony was held on Long Island. This award recognizes an individual for his/her outstanding efforts in either voluntary service, raising awareness, and/or personal support of diabetes education.
For Veterans: The Department of Veteran Affairs has approved reimbursement for the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators. Veterans and other qualified individuals can now request reimbursement for the cost of the exam by using their GI education benefits.
